Paris, 21 August 1911. A man broke into the Louvre museum at night and stole the Mona Lisa. The painting was not recovered until two years later, in Florence.
Florence, 2019. Art historian Luke Perrone visits the legendary library of the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence. A collector has just discovered the diary of his great-grandfather Vincent, Vincenzo Perugia, the man who stole the Mona Lisa, and hopes it will provide answers to the many questions surrounding his ancestor’s infamous crime: who ordered the theft? And why?
Accompanied by an Interpol inspector and an enigmatic young woman he meets in Florence, Luke embarks on a quest across various cities, and it won’t be long before he realises just how much his investigation is endangering mysterious adversaries who are prepared to do anything to keep a disturbing truth hidden.
