Enrique Alda, at least in his translations of Caitlín Maude (1941-1982), in closing the Irish/English/Spanish triangle, and of Mary O’Malley, also triangulated in the background – since she houses Gaelic and its music, its rhythms, in the background of all the English language in which she writes -, has followed a Greek procedure: that of those who considered language as a veil that protects from the brightness of things, and poetry as a tear in that fabric made by each particular language. The immediate and sustained fluidity of his versions is obvious, fulfilling the poetic need not of those who seek “not to be wrong”, but of those who naturally take risks.
